Intensive English Program for 7th grade to 12th grade International Students
Concordia Lutheran School believes immersion is the best way to learn any language, especially English. American English is filled with idioms and jargon, more so than other languages. Students won't be able to learn all the peculiar terms and phrases until they try living the language in the culture.
Concordia Lutheran School has an Intensive English Program that concentrates on four areas of English: writing, reading, listening, and speaking.
Writing: Essays will be reviewed with the students as the teacher points out areas to correct and awkward phrasing. Going over their essay writings with a native speaker is one of the best ways to enhance their writing skills.
Reading: Understanding and comprehending what the student reads is an integral part of reading but more importantly, they must be able to hear the phrases while following along as the words are read.
Listening: Intense listening to the language will improve their understanding in their reading and writing.
Speaking: This is one area with which most international students have the most difficulty. One key component is the self confidence in their pronunciation. Students will only be allowed to speak English while at school and encouraged to speak English as much as possible while staying in America.
Concordia Lutheran School has more than 25 years experience in teaching, leading, and encouraging students to achieve their best potential while in a Christian school setting. Students will be encouraged to attend Sunday worship services in English. Our program is particularly beneficial for students seeking academic preparation in English courses prior to enrolling in a High School or University.
Our students have gone on to the top tier national schools in the USA and now have careers in medicine, law, and various careers that require a high degree of expertise in their field.
